Another Quick Rapid Fire Game

Wargaming WWII

By Chris Anikey

Rules used ; Rapid fire
Number of players ; 2

Played as the Germans with a Stug III company and a Tiger with two battalions of infantry against the Allies with one American battalion and a Commando Btn supported by a company of Shermans and a battery of 17 pdr AT,  we also had two recce vehicles on each side.

There was  built up terrain in one corner, a river running diagonally across the table through part of it with a road splitting the table at about the halfway point.  there was one bridge and one ford on the river.  On the other side of the river was a couple of hills with the road hedged at places with some bocage. on the German side the hill had a building on it.

The main clash of forces was in the town with the German tiger and two Stugs zipping through and out the side to try and outflank the Brits.  Facing them were two Shermans (one was the Firefly), and one Daimler AC.  The two Shermans lit first time and the plucky daimler managed to heavy damage one Stug and light damage the Tiger.  Meanwhile the German inf held the edge of the town.  The Brits held more of it.  On the other side of the river both artillery spotters got toasted after calling in one set of barrages.  them the yank infantry starting dashing itself on the other German infantry while a brave 251/9 HT strafed a 17 pdr at killing all the gunners at close range until it it was overcome by the supporting Sherman.

Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable game with the eventual outcome a draw.  Brits had more casualties but had the better position in the town.
