Zvezda's 1/72nd
Macedonian Phalanx Figure Set

Review

By Ian Hammond

This is a recently released set from Zvezda, There are 37 figures but many more pieces.  The detail is excellent and there are no noticeable mould lines.  Each figure takes some assembly as arms are separate to allow more 3d poses.  Shields are either separate or cast onto the aforementioned arms.  All of the pikes are separate and need to be cut in half and rejoined using a sleeve (provided) as per the historical weapon, there are also some javelins/spears for conversion to light infantry. There are 7 poses although with a little positioning when adding the arms no figure needs to be identical. Many of the pikes are almost levelled and the set could have done with more in a port position.

The figures are fairly accurate with just some helmets failing the test. The box art is very good as are the painted examples on the back of the box. Fitting with the age of battle set statistics are also included.

However short of the minor picking for the levelled pikes this is an excellent set.
