In was to be our first game - We took the scenario ' Fuentes De Onoro ' straight out of the main rulebook . Scale of Figures used ; 20mm . First thoughts I liked really the rules, they were relatively easy to pick up. They take the good bits of ''volley and bayonet'' e.g. one movement base. Still a battalion level feel though brigade mixed ability. More importantly the game gave the right ' Napoleonic' feel. Something else I noticed: generally attacks will be made by 1-2 divisions which are then likely to pull back and consolidate. Only with very lucky dice will the whole line assault even then its unlikely and the impetus is likely to be lost. So the centre may assault and then later the left flank then again later the right etc. I really liked the command control system . The CO keeps a level of control and the role of commanders is very important. I can imagine Austrian and Russian commanders may be 'good', with 1 or 2 commanders being ok. But , overall the command control of generals and certain commanders abilities may be poor , and will really hamper these armies. Archduke Charles will be a good general, but his commanders command radius and activation costs can negate his ability. But I can see the rules actually allowing an Austrian attack vs the French just its likely to be very concentrated by 1 division and over a multi phase game the French have an advantage. I guess today the Bessiers points under Napoleon he probably drops from a 5 to a 1. Suddenly he becomes a good general.
