This was an attempt to refight an article from Wargames Illustrated, it was a 1941/42 fictional set up, with the Japanese attempting to take an island held by retreating British forces and refugees. It was a top game, morale tests cropping up all over the place as loses were heavy on both sides, the Battle was drawn after some argument with young Alex about the subtlties of actually holding an objective at the end of a game, which has set an interesting precedence in that if it says "hold or take" it means just that... Let me explain further. A situation occurred where by both sides had crippled units, 2 turns left to play with no real hope of the Japs being able to launch a final charge to over run the governor's estates (their last objective). However to win, a situation arose, where Alex believed the Japs would win by default by forcing a couple of casualties and a morale check on the last defending companies, hence forcing them to rout while not actually seizing the objectives, which were interestingly greater than 18" (two moves by road) away. It was deemed by two of us to be just a little too unsportsman like and not in the sprit of the game....but I dare say there are those of you out there who would say this would have been good enough.
