Rapid Fire Game Report

Germans Vs. British Late 1944

by Shaun Groves and Mark McCall

3,000 POINTS PER SIDE

This was a game played with Kampfgruppe Peiper 1944 (from the red book) against a matching points value of British forces.

COMMENTS ON THE GAME
by Shaun Groves

It's the out gunning effect that worries me about the rule system, rather than any sort of disparity set up by putting battle group A in against battle group B.

The points system for tanks simply does not work well enough to fight these type of engagements with high concentrations of mediocre tanks Vs Panthers and the like, it doesn't matter that 12 or 13 Shermans were available when their up against 4 Panthers and King Tiger, guess who's going to win!

I think the whole issue of aggressive use of transports, coupled with suicidal bravery of such like in close proximity to armour still needs to be addressed, and I must admit despite Mark's well constructed argument I still do not think that this represents a fair solution.

Every once and a while a thought provoking game crops up that throws our whole perspective of the game system in to turmoil, usually when situations like this occur.
