Magazine Glut

by Pat Condray

At a recent highly confidential meeting of TAG brass (the winner's circle no less) a startling topic came up for discussion. Do you realize that there are over thirty wargame magazines kicking around in this country? Every time you turn around another one crops up! Back before TTT began some of us couldn't have said for sure that there were thirty wargamers in the country. Of course, it is not absolutely necessary to have thirty wargamers in order to have thirty or more wargaming magazines.

The problem would not be so bad except that old wargames magazines have not the decency to stay dead. Not only has TAG emerged from oblivion, but Doug Johnson (see Reconnaissance) has returned from darkest Africa to resume Savage and Soldier, and Jack Scruby is planning to come out with some sort of digest on an if and when basis. Even with the best of intentions some of us can't seem to kick the habit.

Any day now National Institutes of Health will announce the discovery of wargame magazine syndrome. We may be in on the most important psychiatric discovery since Reform Paranoia.
