The Courier Dick Bryant, 45 Willow Street, Brockton, Mass. '62401 Dick and his colleaques Of the New England Wargame Association are putting together for national consumption a 24-page magazine 10 times per year, 35 cents a copy, $3.00 per subscription. Although avowing a highly specialized interest in Napoleonics, American Revolution, and Colonial periods, this group has put forward organizational notes on World War II Germans and all manner of interesting articles. Though Dick has repeatedly assured me that he is not out to compete with the Armchair General, he is either going to have to raise his prices or collect inferior articles if he wants to be sincere. Lamo-Lem Battle Plates P.O. Box 445, Delmar, California 92014 Bruce Weigle's Desert War prints are now available. Readers will be most interested, or at least I was, in the first of the four, showing early British and Italian machinegun tanks, truck drawn Italian artillery, etc. This series also carries painting information for vehicles and equipment shown--a boon both to paint your own enthusiasts and table top modellers. Gerhard Tobinnus 3 Hanover Auf dem Dorn 24 West Germany ust rt ceived a shipment of Schirmer 20mm flats of the 1670 to 1690 era, European infantry and gunners. The figures are of fair quality and considerable variety a must for those dabbling in the Be aubre 17th Century series. One curious point-the musketeers all carry a short boar spear which was common to the musketeers of Saxony, Brandenberg, and many other states prior to the adoption of the bayonet. Some of the gunners are digging, and should make good supplements to early seiges under the rules James Hinds ha 9 drawn up. Les Higgins Miniatures 52 High Street, Hardingstone, North Hants, England. The prices for the figures mentioned in last issue are 25 cents for infantry and 50 cents for cavalry, 20 and 40 if ordered in quantities of 20 or more. Aram was not in error on the quality! The grenadiers, musketeers, officers, and the two types of dragoons are definitely not to be excelled in this scale. Figurines Editions Belaubre Jean Belaubre, Avenue General r nn C. 0. de Gaulle, La Ga lombes, France, or care of T.A.G. I regret to announce that the Polish mounted officers, standards, and musicians used to illustrate M. Belaubre's article on the Polish cavalry are not at this time available. This is a result in a mix-up by the engraver in the desired sequence of molds, some 1630 types being taken up before the Polish mounted cadre. We will carry an announcement when the latter appear. Readers may also contact M. Belaubre concerning a series of plates with text due shortly on Saxons of the 30 Years War and Polish troops of the 17th Century. Airfix Products Ltd. Has come out with German and United States WWII - infantry in 54mm scale. Their advertising people assure me that these figures are ideal for wargamers, however, in spite of the impracticality of 54mm modern wargames, I suggest that enthusiasts of 1/32 scale WWII armor models keep an eye out for these exceptionally well done figures. Unlike the paratrooper set, which was an overscale rendition of the 23mm series, these miniatures are apparently brand new in design and worthy of comparison with the finest metal types. Bugle and Guidon Cincinnati Ohio, 45219: This firm, for reasons best known to itself, has embarked on a series of absolutely superlative 30mm figures commemorating Custer's Last Stand. Not being an Indian War fancier, I find this disconcerting. Figures are available both painted and un-painted. Prices run about $1.65 mounted and .85 foot. Command Post 760 West Emerson, Upland, CA 91786 Has expanded into handling Douglas Miniatures and a new series known as D. C. Stewart Miniatures. The latter include French Dromadary Chasseur, Saxon Von Zastrow Cuirassiers, French Irish Dillon Regt. of Infantry, etc. Prices are $2.50 for foot figure, $7.00 for mounted figures, 54mm scale. This kind of thing is a bit steep for my blood but not altogether expensive for that scale in the run of model figure collecting.
