Our inadvertent omission of a portion of Lombard's shot tables from Volume II Number 1 led to several enquiries. To take up where we left off, the 12pdr. charged with 4lbs of powder had an estimated muzzle velocity of 1375fps and:
Grape Range for the 4 pounder, 640 yds., canister (containing 63 balls), 427 yds. Charge was 1 1b., 12 oz. of powder. Grape Range for the 8 pounder, 749 yds., canister, 514 yds. Powder charge: 2 lbs., 12 oz. Grape Range for the 12 pdr. was 855 yds., canister, 641 yds. Powder charge was 4 lbs., 4 oz.:
Fire at ranges over 1,000 yds. was "at greatest random," i.e., it was very inaccurate.
