Editorial

Improvements

by Pat Condray

While it is perhaps not entirely proper to do so in an editorial, now may be a good time to pass on some random notes to the reader which may or may not be of interest.

First off, after ineffectually trying to locate the names and addresses of geographically close subscribers for a few dozen times, I must call it quits. As what I hope will be a useful substitute, we will instead provide, in the letters and possibly on a separate I page listing, the names of those wishing to contact fellow enthusiasts in a particular area. Full addresses will first appear on the letters, unless, of course, the writer wishes to remain anonymous.

Second, and here again it looks as though we have fallen down on the job, certain articles promised as far back as issue No. 2 have not been forthcoming, no doubt raising concern on the part of some readers as to our morals and integrity. Where are the WWII Italians, The Desert Battle Report with photos? The Revolutionary War British and Hessians? The Napoleonic Austrians? I know where some of them are supposed to be-but unless one slipped in between the time I wrote this and the time this issue went to press, I haven't seen them either. Efforts to expedite such matters in time for a particular deadline are hampered by circumstances-hence the table of contents of each issue is the last item to be set up. Our apologies for now, results we are still trying for.

On a somewhat less apologetic note, various organizations have from time to time asked for our support, and, to do something more constructive in keeping with our last editorial, we will try to assist on these matters. However, to do so effectively "Bulletins" on club meetings, conventions, invitations for membership and the like must be available to The Armchair General at least one, preferably two, months prior to our publication date. We cannot go around dropping ads or articles at the last moment (or later) to enter such bulletins. As an alternative, if a flyer has been printed by a club and is available to us at the time of mailing an issue, we'll stuff it in, but here also, it is a good idea to plan ahead.

For a fourth completely unrelated note, I would like to thank those of you who have contributed articles and comments on "items of interest." Where possible, we will make every effort to include such materials, even at the expense of previously prepared materials of the staff regulars. Do not take it amiss if we comment on these articles, and always feel quite free to explain our mistakes to us. All too often, on subjects such as military history, uniforms, board and table top rules, etc. incidents, rumors, and unfounded guesses, or unclear rule solutions are seized on. Let us air your views, comments, and information, but, however strongly you feel about something, try to avoid profanity as to conform with postal regulations.
