14th (Cuirassier) Cavalry

Grand Duchy of Warsaw 1808-14

by Pat Condray

Similar in general to French Cuirassiers. Coats were of dark blue with crimson turnbacks and yellow (rather than the French white) grenades. Collar crimson. In general, yellow or yellow metal for trim where the French cuirassier wore white-i.e., as button and trim color.

The shabraques began as French blue with yellow being substituted for white trim (gold for silver.) These were replaced by crimson shabraques trimmed yellow.

Trumpeters wore white with crimson facings, etc. Trumpet cords crimson/yellow alternating.

Twosquadrons of this regiment were formed with the Saxon cuirassiers in 1812.
