Change in Attitude

by Rob Markham

With changing times, comes opportunity. The current advances in the home computer have allowed for wargaming to go in another direction that hopefully will allow it to flourish in the future. DTP companies such as this one are one man operations that are done because the one man has to create (not chooses to).

As such, I have decided to expand the scope of this magazine to include coverage of other DTP companies as well. This issue I have a short article from Hampton Newsome of Ivy Street Games and hope to feature other articles in the future. At the back of this issue, I've also included ads for these companies. Hopefully, if you have not sampled games from them, you will do so in the future. I really hope you find this new movement to be as exciting a development as I feel it is.

Having designed games for just about evry company out there from Avalon Hill to GMT, I find that the most satisfying work I've done has been the DTP games that I have created in the last year.

For one thing, it has allowed me to make all of the decisions that I had no control over before. The end result of this process is that the design has been much better - even though it is much more work. While the number of people reached this way is much smaller, I think the future promise of DTP games is much greater for me than in the standard industry. So hold onto your hats because the DTP road is a bumpy one but definitely a rewarding one and support guys like Hampton Newsome, Randy Moorehead, and Kerry Anderson in their efforts.

Also, there is a standing invitation to other DTP companies to contact me about inclusion in the next issue.
