Shoes of the Wehrmacht

Part Two: Paris Boots

by Alex Kachevsky

This issue Alex looks at a shoe that few reenactors have been able to obtain.

Hitlerstrutunddancebooten (Capture of Paris Memorial Boots)

These boots were made to commemorate the capture of Paris. They had the date emblazoned with rhinestones on the boot so that the boots sparkled in the sun. Many young SS troopers started wearing these boots because they had Hitler's seal of approval and they looked cool in black uniforms. These boots did not last long in combat, because they would attract the attention of large caliber guns, causing the owner (and by their close proximity, the boots also) to be flung up into the air about two hundred meters and scattered in several directions. There are few surviving examples of these boots.
