WILLIAM T. JOHNSEN is a Strategic Research Analyst at the Strategic Studies Institute. Commissioned in the Infantry, Lieutenant Colonel Johnsen has served in a variety of troop postings, command and staff assignments in the 25th Infantry Division and 7th Infantry Division (Light). He has also served as Assistant Professor of History at the U.S. Military Academy, and most recently as Arms Control Analyst in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). LTC Johnsen has a B.S. degree from the U. S. Military Academy and a MA and Ph.D. in history from Duke University.

THOMAS-DURELL YOUNG has held the Henry L. Stimson Chair of Military Studies at the Strategic Studies Institute of the Army War College since 1992. From 1988 to 1992, he was a National Security Affairs Analyst at the Institute. Prior to his appointment, he was a country risk analyst for BERI, a Swiss-based consulting firm. Dr. Young received his ,D. from the Graduate Institute of International Studies, University of Geneva, Switzerland; his M.A. from the School Advanced International Studies, The Johns Hopkins University; and is a 1990 graduate of the U.S. Army War College. He has published extensively on U.S. alliance issues with particular emphasis on Western Europe and the Southwest Pacific.
