By “Major General” John Burke
It is my privilege to inform you of the sucessful capture of the rebel supply base at Naked Creek in the Shenandoah Valley. The cavalry covered itself in glory by capturing the base, a 6 gun battery, and close to 5,000 prisoners. We have also been in pursuit of the foe as they have run before our victorous army like jackrabbits. The rebel scum have burroweed into Mount Massanutten like trapped animals. Careful probing by our cavalry revealed the fact that the enemy outnumbers our forces, but we have sent for reinforcements so that we may force the rebels from the Valley. I would also like to mention that Major General Keller demonstrated his tactical acumen in his brilliant fight to prevent the rebels from outflanking our position. Sir, it is imperative that additional infantry and artillery be sent to aid us in our struggle. It is my opinion that we can smash the rebels here once and for all.
