By Eric Schlenger and Phil Willows
A Seekrieg battle pitted an American fleet of 3 battleships, 1 battlecruiser, and 2 heavy cruisers against a Japanese group including 4 battleships and 3 heavy cruisers. Eric and Tom Gallagher commanded the American fleet, Phil commanded the Japanese. The Japanese snuck in under a heavy storm. An early magazine hit quickly shifted the balance in favor the Americans. The situation was compounded later by two 18” hits on the Iowa that failed to explode, and a third hit that glanced harmlessly off a turret - all in the same round! The Japanese lost 2 heavy cruisers and a third was badly damaged. The American heavy cruisers were badly mauled, but still afloat. The Yamato is in need of a fresh paint job. The Japanese turned tail and ran before the Americans could bring in reinforcements. This one was a marginal American victory.
