Last year I started a history club at Crest Memorial School. Each month the junior high students participated in a great battle from American history using miniatures. In year one the battles we covered included: Saratoga, Gettysburg, The Alamo, Little Big Horn, San Juan Hill, Midway, and D-Day. In year two we will be featuring battles from ancient and medieval history. On our list of planned games: Marathon, Zama, Ceasar's conquest of Gaul, The Crusades, Hastings, Leignitz, Cortes' conquest of the Aztecs, and a castle siege. We also hoped to expand the program to some additional schools. Our first new recruit is Middle Township Middle School. SJCW member and Middle Township student Dustin Weiss has created a "Historical Strategies" club at the school. Mr. Erik Clark is his teacher/sponsor. Plans are underway for a friendly battle between the two clubs.
