We had so much fun with this scenario at last year's convention that we just had to do it again at Historicon 2001. Both games this year were hilarious good fun. We had a few repeat gamers and they seemed to be playing for their own bizarre victory conditions, which added to the laughs. All the house rules, scenario details, and instructions for building the tavern have been posted on Buck Surdu's web page. You'll find it on the Articles page, so check it out. There were a few incidents worth mentioning. In game one the guy playing the white pirates decided to take on all the cannibals. It had never been tried. Three of his pirates ended up being poisoned by blow darts before they could kill the savages and get the antidote. Also in game one the guards got blasted at point blank range by a swivel gun. Ouch! In game two the Chinese pirates scored the most impressive victory we've ever seen. First he took out the samurai and grabbed the treasure map. The hardest part was climbing over all the bodies blocking the door. Meanwhile another pirate team had grabbed the treasure in the basement and escaped the alligator with one victory point. He desperately raced for the door with his prize. One Chinese pirate distracted the guards, opening up a clear lane to the door. A well-aimed shot from a Chinese musket dropped the guy moments before he escaped. Another Chinese pirate was standing close by and he picked up the treasure and walked out the door. Well done. During one of the games I had a chance to discuss some ideas for a Wild West version with Mark Niedwick. I hope to collaborate with him on a new scenario for next year. Stay tuned. It could be a lot of fun.
