The Scramble for Africa

White Man's Conquest of the
Dark Continent From 1876 to 1912

By Thomas Pakenham

This 700 page history of the scramble for Africa is a treasure trove of background information for any wargamer interested in gaming Darkest Africa, the Boer War, the Zulus, the Sudan, or any other conflict on the continent from 1876 to 1912. The book includes the exploits of the famous (Stanley, Brazza, Rhodes, etc.) and the more obscure (Samori, Tippu Tib, Mwanga, etc.). Most battles aren't described in great detail, but a little imagination is all that is needed to create scores of interesting scenarios. This book is an excellent first book for anyone interested in this fascinating episode in world history.
