Some terrain that Charlie bought at Cold Wars inspired this scenario. We've played it several times and the battle has been close fought on each occasion. Two civilian surveyors are working in Indian Territory with a cavalry escort. The group decides to get a closer look at an interesting rock formation, ignoring the advice of their scouts. Unfortunately this is sacred ground to the Indians and they decide to punish the intruders. At the center of the board is Medicine Rock, a wooded hill with a large rock out-cropping. Anyone on the hill gets soft cover. Any figure that is in contact with the rock outcropping can spend an action getting into a defensive position and will then get hard cover protection. It will take one action for a figure in hard cover to get up and be able to fight in melee combat. Trees and brush are scattered over the rest of the board. Any figure in base contact with a tree or brush area gets soft cover. Two players control the civilian surveyors and their cavalry escort. The ratings for the cavalry are Scout, Officer/ Veteran Trooper, Trooper, and Civilian. Each player gets four figures (one of each rating). The cavalry win a marginal victory if any of them survive to tell the tale. If one of the civilians survive this will be considered a decisive victory. The ratings for the Indians are Mighty Warrior, Warrior, Hunter, and Young Brave. There are three Indian players. Each controls a band of four Indians (one of each rating). The Indians win a victory if they kill all the intruders. Each band may enter the board from any direction they choose. In the first try, the only survivor was "Single Feather," one of the scouts. He proudly took the dead officers coat as his trophy. "Lieutenant Single Feather" didn't survive the second encounter. This time a hot headed cavalry officer objected to one of the civilians accidentally winging him with a stray bullet. The unfortunate surveyor was executed on the spot. Needless to say the Indians claimed victory this time. There were no survivors. This scenario is designed for the modified Blood & Swash rules detailed in this magazine.
