The Law Returns to Cow Town

Battle Report

by Matt Fritz

Round two of Matt’s Wild West shoot out game was played in the comfy confines of Matt’s back room. This time the cast of characters was smaller, and included players new to the game. Kirby controlled the Law faction which consisted of Sheriff Lobo and Deputy Dawg. They were led by Ben Cartwright who was out to avenge the murder of his three sons in round one. John Burke was once again in charge of the Apaches. Charlie had the Outlaw faction which included Ike Clanton, the Frisco Kid, and Muttonchop Yaz. Matt ran the homicidal Renegade Ranger faction of Clayton Moore, Dandy Don DeMarco, and Reverend Jim.Charlie sent his faction straight toward the bank. The Frisco Kid died before he had gone two paces, another victim of the Apaches. But Ike made it to the bank and reintroduced himself to Mr. Drysdale, the banker.

Kirby scrambled the lawmen to foil the robbery. John took advantage of the distraction to creep into town. At one point the Indians actually moved into the Sheriff’s office and opened fire on the hotel. Only the town blacksmith rose to op-pose the Apaches, and he didn’t last long. Another victim of the Apaches. The Renegades try their best to murder the law men. But Clay Moore, their notorious leader, got entangled in a shoot-out with the Indians. Another victim of the Apaches. Reverend Jim tried his best to hack down the Sheriff but failed, and the Renegades slunk out of town with their tails between their legs. Charlie’s outlaws managed to negotiate a shaky truce with the lawmen so they could combine forces and fight off the Apaches. Then Ben Cartwright remembered that the Indians were friendly with Doc Potter so he went to arrest him. A brutal fight resulted around and on top of the Doctor’s office.

Ike closed with Little Big Man and killed the runt in hand to hand combat. But Jay Strongbow came out firing arrows and Ike spent the rest of the game in a pool of his own blood, impaled by an arrow. Yaz got an arrow wound too before dispatching the troublesome Apache. A third Apache, Blows in Wind, was wounded by Ben Cartwright. Apparently the Code of the West doesn’t extend to Apaches. Ben continued to fire bullets into the wounded Indian as he lay bleeding to death in the street. With the Indian threat gone the lawmen and outlaws turned on each other. The outlaws were outnumbered 3-2, and were badly injured. Kirby’s faction dragged Ike and Yaz off to jail, recovered the stolen money, and scored a clear victory. The law had returned to Cow Town.
