GMT games has come out with some really great games in their East Front Series. The East Front and Barbarossa titles as of now consist of Army Group South, Army Group Center and Typhoon. Army Group North is slated for sale at the end of the year. The series is also going to include all of the campaigns fought in Russia from Leningrad to Stalingrad as far south as the Caucus region for 24 maps total! (rumor has it that it may go as far as Berlin 1945!). All of these games can be played as stand-alone and are link-able (map wise) and will be completely link-able via the rules in the very near future. The design work, play ability, and detail can be attributed to the fine work of Vance von Borries (designer) and Anthony Curtis (developer) as well as to GMT's play testers. Rules and Game support are outstanding. Rules questions and the like are answered on-line from either one of these gentlemen. The artwork and detail on the maps and counters are top notch. The OBs are really great. Units range form the divisional level down to the regiment. Anti-aircraft units, artillery, NKVD border guards, Soviet HQs, Panzer regiments, Stukas, and Mig fighters etc. are all here. The Germans have great movement rates for their Panzers and can out-distance and out-maneuver their soviet counterparts. Command, control, and the issuance of orders for the Germans are superior. The Soviets on the other hand have vast amounts of infantry and tank divisions with a seemingly endless amount of replacements. The Soviets are also hamstrung by their Army HQs. The Soviet units are completely dependent on the HQs for the issuance of orders and their ability to react to local threats. If you love the Russian front and Love operational games, this series is for you! I highly recommend this!
