William Keyser was at the convention with his legendary "flexible" scrolling terrain. Charlie reports on one Valmy game: Suvorov led an Austro-Russian Army against the French Army led by Junot. The terrain was very beautiful. The scenario was a good one for experienced gamers, but not for people who wanted to try to play his rules for the first time. The nuances of the French in 1799 and the frailty of the Austrians (8 figure units with a 2 6# battalion guns - i.e. a 10 figure battalion!) The 6 people who played the game were confused with the scenario, which also included a flanking force of Austrians! The Austrians on the right on the first turn move right into canister range of a 6 gun 8# French Battery. This led me to talk to them about the strategy that should have been used. The game lasted 4 turns or until the Austrian flanking force arrived.
