Tankers Challenge

WWII Battle Report

Matt and Charlie ran the first SJCW convention game at Cold Wars - Tankers Challenge. We had fourteen gamers participate in the game. A great turn out considering we weren't even in the PEL! There were many hilarious incidents. One had to sympathize with panzer ace Eric Schlenger as he was forced to play Allied tanks.

To add insult to injury every time he lined up a target someone else destroyed it! John Kovacs got stuck playing an armored car. After circling the board twice, pelting the Russian tanks with his 20mm autocannon and not scoring any points we took pity on him and gave him a real tank. John was a good sport about it and helped the new players work the tables.

Doug Gallagher accomplished one of the most amazing feats of the night. Entering the board in an M3 Lee he managed to kill two panzers on the same turn - one with each gun! There were loads of laughs (and beers) all around.

Bill Tompkins pulled off the most amazing maneuver of the night, throwing his Panther into a dizzying series of turret rotations and pivots while firing his smoke generator and snapping off a shot. This maneuver kept him alive for one more turn and earned him a $10 gift certificate from ATAK Miniatures for the most creative use of a smoke generator in a combat situation.

The top tank buster for the Germans was Tom Closson with 6 kills for 406 points. He received a gift certificate from ATAK Miniatures. Tom lives in the Philadelphia area so we may be able to get him to an SJCW gaming event one of these days. The second place panzer ace was Bill Tompkins, just 23 points behind Tom. Todd, Jim Wheaton, John Kovacs, Mark Fastoso, and Paul Georgian followed Bill in the standings.

For the Allies our own Phil Willows came out on top with a score of 302 points and received the ATAK Miniatures gift certificate. Phil narrowly edged Caesar, who scored 300 points, followed by Del Stover, Rich Boland, Doug, Eric, and Jamie. We gave our consolation prize, a copy of Sun Tzu's Art of War donated by ATAK Miniatures, to Rich. Thanks to all the SJCW members that made this game a success.
