Ted and Rob report on Piercing the Reich and Triumphant Fox, two board games from Moments in History: "Both games share the same system. The former deals with the struggle for Aachen and the latter covers the battle of Gazala. Moments in History is a German company and these games share many characteristics of the European games that are hitting the board gaming market these days -- excellent graphics, simple game mechanics with relative ease of play with games being completed in a short period of time. Units are battalions and they are moved when their division is activated. Each time a unit from a division is activated the divisional activation chit is moved down the activation track. The further down the track you go the less efficient your forces will be. Pushing your units too hard has a price. Initiative is constantly shifting so you never know who will move next. The defender has a limited ability to react to the active player. With the variable victory conditions replay value is high. All in all both games do a good job of representing battalion level combat based on operational studies I have read. The next game in the series will be Freuligswind -- the battles of Sidi Bou Sid and Kasserine."
