Ted reports: "The time is Oct. '41. The Germans have crossed the Oka River and have captured Mtsensk with elements of the 4th Panzer Division. The next objective is the city of Tula then on to Moscow. Dug in behind a minefield and on the high ground are elements of the 6th Guard Rifle Division blocking the road. Gross Deutchland Motorized Infantry Regiment is called forward to clear the road and continue the advance. Thus the stage is set for my favorite game -- GD '41 by the Gamers. In our game being played now several gaps have been placed in the minefield by men of the 12th Schutzen Regiment and the Regiment GD is set poised to exploit. However, to the south the Russians have managed to gather a tank brigade with some sixty tanks and are ready to strike at the base of the bridgehead- namely Mtsensk. German tanks go out to slow them down and bide time so that an infantry battalion can be organized for the defense. The Mk III's are no match for the T-34's and the KV's and withdraw behind a battery of 88's and finally a smoke screen. But the infantry have organized a hasty defense finally and have managed to commandeer a battery of six 50mm ATG's. The Russian tank brigade smashes into Mtsensk without regard for losses. The ATG's take fearful losses but in a fine combined arms defense the attack is stopped with a loss of about fifty tanks. The Russian tank brigade withdraws and the advance continues. TCS allows the gamer to refight regimental battles at the platoon level for infantry with individual tanks and support weapons. The simple game mechanics are driven by a detailed orders driven command system that accurately portrays combat at this level with nationality differences handled in a very elegant manner. I love this game!"
