There are certain standard
conventions which are used throughout
Simulacrum, unless otherwise noted. For
example:
All monetary values quoted will
be in American dollars ($US) for the
simple reason that $US are the lingua
franca of internet auctions.
The first reference to an
abbreviation in an article will always
appear-in parentheses immediately after
the full and unabbreviated form,
cf $US in the previous section.
Abbreviations will be used primarily for
game titles.
Certain sources of information
are so standard and will be used so often
that references to them will always be
abbreviated, e.g., Pimper's for
Pimper's All the World's Wargames
(which will be discussed in an upcoming
article on reference material for
collectors).
Despite the fact that this journal
is published in the city of Victoria, province
of British Columbia, sovereign
parliamentary democracy of Canada by an
expatriate Scot, I will attempt to conform
to American spelling, consistent with most
Canadian publishing conventions. Please
overlook the occasional lapse, which would
be due solely to force of habit; I have no
desire to goad my fellow North Americans.
any more than absolutely necessary.
I am a staunch supporter of a
good, classical education, on the grounds
that it represents the same principle that
we are all familiar with - those who ignore
history are doomed to repeat it and its
mistakes. Latin is one of the four corner-
stones of a good classical education, and
so will be found throughout Simulacrum,
where appropriate.
I'm not so much showing off
here, as I'm exacting a long-awaited
revenge for having been forced to spend
four years of my youth in high school
studying it. This was to no apparent avail
as Latin, still, to the best of my knowledge,
dead.
As Monty Python once said:
"Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition."
Expect the unexpected.
We learn from history that we
learn nothing from history.
