The President's Corner

Honor and Accuracy

by Harry Cooper (1-LIFE-1983)

“Dex” Armstrong is an American submarine sailor and he has written a great deal of short pieces about American submarine sailors. We have put some in our KTB Magazine without knowing that “Dex” was the author, the “Dumpster” fight article in KTB #179 is one such article. I accept responsibility for failing to put his name there as the author and we’ll certainly take greater steps to make sure not to leave it off on any articles in the future.

After learning about this oversight, “Dex” and I exchanged a few nice emails. He’s a great guy and here is some of what he wrote:

“I still remember the role you played in saving REQUIN and like my shipmates, will remain forever in your debt. Your credentials in the submarine community are sterling and I in no way blame you. You come highly recommended by Captain ART RAWSON (774-1988) and by KEN “Pig” HENRY (1468-1990)…..but most importantly your work to preserve submarine history is well known. If ever there is ANYTHING I have written, that you find a use for, it would be an honor. Keep up the good work. Like you, I write simply to honor the finest group of men I ever had the honor of associating with.”

Thanks “Dex”. It is an honor to have your work on our pages, and I will make sure not to foul up and forget your name on the byline again…..and I’m sure glad we helped save USS REQUIN too!
