US Navy submarines SS 189 through SS 203 were built as follows:
Length: 307’ 2”
Beam: 27’ 3”
Draft: 13’ 3”
Displacement: 1,475/2,370 tons
Power (diesel): 5,400 hp
(SS 198 – SS 200 had General Motors engines,
SS201 – SS 203 had Fairbanks Morse engines)
(electric): 2,740 hp
(General Electric motors, 252 battery cells)
bunkers: 93,993 gallons
Speed (diesel): 20 knots
Speed (electric): 8 knots
Tubes (fwd): six 21 inch
Tubes (aft): four 21 inch
(carried 24 torpedoes)
Guns: one 3”50 deck gun
AA Guns: two .50 cal and two .30 cal machine guns
Crew (officers): 5 officers
Crew (enlisted): 54 men
depth of dive: 250 feet
