Japanese Super-Submarines

Oyashho Class Submarine

by Harry Cooper

We cannot reveal where we got these photographs or information, but we are told that the guys flying the P3C ORION ASW aircraft can locate any other submarine in the ocean, but not these new OYASHHO Class boats.

Both photos on this page show the super-quiet OYASHHO Class submarines at sea trials in Japanese home waters. We do know much about them -- but there is still much more to be learned, and naturally we will have our field agents continue to probe.

We do not yet have the specifications for these boats, but we are told that they are somewhat smaller than the Russian built KILO Class submarines, but much quieter than any other submarines in the ocean today. As we read in KTB #179 last month, the world's oceans are getting full of so many submarines from so many nations - and now we learn that the OYASHHO Class is probably the most quiet of them all.

We are told that the propulsion system on these submarines is so classified, so secret that even our Sharkhunters SEIG Agents cannot learn their specifics.

All we know thus far is that she is a small submarine and extremely quiet - so quiet that the ASW operators on P3E aircraft cannot detect them. That is really quiet!

As soon as we learn more about these Japanese OYASHO Class submarines, you will read it here immediately.

Okay, let's take a last look at the new I.J.N. super submarine - OYASHHO Class. (photo below)
