IJN and Italian Submarines

I.J.N. Submarine I-367

27 May 1945, the LJ.N. submarine I-367 under the command of Oberleutnant K. Taketomi, launched two Kaiten units at American ships east of Okinawa, heard two detonations " and claimed two American destroyers sunk. In reality, the destroyer USS GILLIGAN was hit and damaged but none were sunk. This was the only action initiated in the war by either Taketomi or U-367.

Italian Submarine Tarantini

11 June 1940, the Italian submarine TARANTINI under command of CC Alfredo Jaschi, sank the 3,039 ton Panamanian tanker BEME at 33° 12'N x 33° 38'E. This was the only action initiated by either Jaschi or TARANTINI, as this submarine had only six months vet to live. On 14 December 1940, she was sunk by the submarine HMS THUNDERBOLT at 45° 25'N x 01'22'W.
