The only Skipper of U-210 was Korvettenkapitän Rudolf Lemke, who was killed in action.

U-210 was initially attached to the 6th U-Bootflottille based at St. Nazaire then transferred to the 9th which was based at Brest.

On her first and only war patrol, U-210 was in the North Atlantic.

One report states: On 29 July 1942 she was outbound when she sighted Convoy ON.115 but she was repeatedly driven off by the escort on the 30th and 31st. On 1 August she helped form a patrol line “PIRAT” to re-establish contact with the convoy but the operation was broken off on the 3rd due to heavy fog. She then joined the “STEINBRINCK” group east of the Newfoundland Bank and on 6 August she attacked Convoy SC.94. She was forced to the surface by HMCS ASSINIBOINE and engaged in a gunfight until she was rammed and sunk.

Another report states: U-210 was sighted on the surface but immediately dove. ASSINIBOINE attacked with depth charges, badly damaging the submarine and forcing it to the surface. There followed a wild gunfight with damage to both sides. The destroyer tried to ram several times and missed. Finally she succeeded when U-210 tried to submerge. She was rammed again and shallow set depth charges were dropped. The submarine was hit in the bow with a 4.7-inch shell and she sank.

In her short life, U-210 did not fire torpedoes at any ships.
