Colonel ROBERT MORGAN (EH-271), pilot of the B-17 bomber named MEMPHIS BELLE, suffered a fall and a broken neck on 22 April while at an air show in Asheville, NC. His condition worsened and in mid-May, he was taken off life support and he quietly began his “Eternal Patrol”. He is most remembered because his plane was the first to complete the required 25 bombing missions over Europe to be rotated home. In addition to the 25 missions over Europe with MEMPHIS BELLE, he also flew a B-29 for another 25 missions in the Pacific Theater. Fair winds and clear skies, Colonel MORGAN.
