The only Skipper of U-207 was Oberleutnant zur See Fritz Meyer, who was killed in action. He had previously commanded U-34 from September 1940 through May 1941.

U-207 was attached to the 7th U-Bootflottille based at St. Nazaire. The emblem on the conning tower of U-207 left no doubt what they expected to do in the war, and to whom they would do it.

On her first war patrol, U-207 was directed, on 27 August 1941, on an unsuccessful search for Convoy HX.145. The next day she joined the Markgraf Group which assembled southwest of Iceland. On the night of 9/10 September, she joined in an attack on Convoy SC.42 and sank two ships of 9,739 tons total. She was detected and destroyed by the convoy’s escorts the following day.

It is not certain if U-207 sank the Canadian steamer RANDA. She disappeared in the same area at the same time so it is possible that U-207 sank her too or it is possible that she remained behind to assist survivors and became a straggler.
