Knights Cross Medals

During World War II, a total of 145 Knights Cross medals were awarded to men of the U-Bootwaffe. These include:

100th was Leutnant (Ing.) Heinz Krey. The award was made 4 September 1943.

101st was Kplt August Maus, (photo right) C.O. of U-185. The award was made 21 September 1943.

102nd was Oberleutnant zur See Dietrich Schöneboom, Skipper of U-431. The award was made 20 October 1943.

103rd was Oberleutnant (Ing.) d.R. Carl-August Landfehrmann who was L.I. on U-181, U-146 and U-38. The award was made 27 October 1943.

104th was Kapitänleutnant (Ing.) Hellmut Rohweder who was L.I. on U-514 and U-69. The award was made 14 November 1943.

105th was Kapitänleutnant Egon Frhr. von Schlippenbach, Skipper of U-453. The award was made 19 November 1943.

106th was Oberleutnant zur See Horst-Arno Fenski (photo right), Skipper of U-410. The award was made 26 November 1943.

107th was Kapitänleutnant Heinz Franke, Skipper of U-262. The award was made 30 November 1943.

108th was Kapitänleutnant Max-Martin Teichert, Skipper of U-456. The award was made 19 December 1943.

This was the last Knights Cross awarded to a U-Bootfahrer in ’43.
