We have already reported that RADM GENE FLUCKEY (2169-LIFE-1992) (at right) has been stricken with the dreaded Alzheimer’s disease. We received their Christmas card with the hand-written note from Mrs. Fluckey, that due to the Admiral’s condition, they will no longer send Christmas cards. This is the last year that we will hear from “Lucky” Fluckey. On Eternal PatrolPAUL “Swish” SAUNDERS (3092-1993) was Chief of the Boat and he was the demolitions expert on that eight-man raiding party from USS BARB who blew up the Japanese troop train. He was one of the most highly decorated enlisted men in the American submarine service. The list of his decorations is far too lengthy to cover here. We met ‘Swish’ by pure coincidence at a seafood festival near this HQ. He only lived about eight miles from here and had already been a Member for a couple years by then. “Swish” SAUNDERS has recently begun his “Eternal Patrol”. He was 85 years of age. Sail on in peace ‘Swish’, we miss you. Goodbye HERBERTOberleutnant z.S. HERBERT WERNER (18-C-1983) at right is a Charter Member and has served well on our Board of Advisors for his ten-year term, but that is now up and we say thanks for your dedication Captain WERNER. Goodbye EDDIEEDDIE PHILLIPS (220-A/LIFE-1986) has served well on our Board of Advisors for his ten-year term, but that is now up and we say thanks for your dedication EDDIE. Garbageman and the BearOur two new Members of the Sharkhunters Advisory Board have been aboard for a long time and are dedicated Members. DAVID MOBLEY (417-LIFE-1987) was a deputy sheriff when he joined Sharkhunters back in 1987, so when he joined us for our first ever Sharkhunters “Patrol” in Europe, he got the nickname “Deputy Dave”. When he returned home, he turned in his badge and gun, and became general manager of a refuse hauling company, and his nickname of “Garbageman Dave” has stuck to this day. He donated a beautiful display sign which we use in our booth at shows and he also donated a very nice photocopy machine. DAVID SAVADYGA (1020-LIFE-1989) has also been a Member for many years, and is very dedicated to Sharkhunters. He has been along on more “Patrols” than any other Member. He is part Indian and his native name is “Man Who Walks Like Bear” but we just call him ‘Bear”. His dedication to Sharkhunters is absolute and he has never wavered, & he’s been a tremendous help on these “Patrols”. Both these Members have shown great dedication to Sharkhunters as well as excellent judgment over the years. They will both serve on our Sharkhunters Advisory Board until 2012. Welcome Garbageman Dave & the Bear! Membership Contest and a Bahamas Cruise! You bet – a Bahamas Cruise is the First Prize for the Member who recruits the most new Members in 2004 (minimum of 15)! If the Member would rather a LIFE Membership instead, that’s what they will receive. Okay, I’m in a generous mood. The Member who recruits the most new Members (minimum of 15) will get their choice of these great prizes AND the Member who recruits the next highest number of new Members (minimum of 15) will receive the OTHER of these two great prizes. EVERYONE CAN WIN SOMETHING! You will receive a credit of $5 for each new Member you recruit towards anything in the catalog, your next renewal – whatever you like, you get $5 for each new Member up to four. If you recruit 5 new Members – you get another year of your own Membership…..FREE! For every 5 new Members you recruit – you receive one more year of Membership – FREE! I really like that word FREE, don’t you? Here are Members already on their way to that GRAND PRIZE: WILLIS CARTO (1059-1989) ………………………………… 3
It isn’t difficult. Do you loan your KTB to a friend who enjoys it? That friend would probably love a Membership, so sign them up and besides, you won’t have to wonder where are your missing issues of the KTB when your friend loses them. Are you part of a re-enactment group? There are people in that group who would love to hear about Sharkhunters. Be creative and YOU can be the GRAND PRIZE winner. There is plenty of time for YOU to win that GRAND PRIZE. If you need Membership applications, brochures etc. just let us know, and we’ll send them out to you. GOOD HUNTING! AUTOMATIC RENEWALThe automatic dues renewal program is well received by our Members. It saves time & the headache of having to fill out a form, stick it in an envelope, hunt up a stamp etc. For our Members with their credit cards in our files – when your dues are due, we simply charge them to your account and you are renewed for another year – it’s that simple! When you see the charge appear on your bill, send us an e-mail, FAX or phone to let us know which FREE audiotape you want and if you have been a Member for five or more years, let us know which videotape you want in addition to the audiotape. It’s your free gift. Members love this program. R & R in South Florida!Okay, we used to call them “Coffee Gatherings” but “R & R” makes better sense. We have two planned: Friday 23 April, meet in the revolving lounge atop Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale at 5:30pm until ????? Saturday, 24 April we meet at Snappers in beautiful Key Largo from 4pm until???? Come alone; bring a friend or a prospective Member. Order as much or as little as you want off the menu and you pay your own tab. This is a great way for Sharkhunters Members to meet other Members. Any questions – send us an e-mail or call. All Members and their guests are welcome.
