Knights Cross Medals

During World War II, a total of 145 Knights Cross medals were awarded to men of the U-Bootwaffe. These include:

94th was Kapitänleutnant Günther Heydemann, Skipper of U-575. The award was made 3 July 1943.

95th was Kapitänleutnant Friedrich Markworth, Skipper of U-66. [right]The award was made 8 July 1943.

96th was Kapitänleutnant Georg Staats, Skipper of U-508. The award was made 19 August 1943.

97th was Kapitänleutnant Gerd Kelbling, Skipper of U-593. The award was made 19 August 1943.

98th was Kapitänleutnant (Ing.) Herbert Panknin, Engineering Officer aboard U-106. The award was made 4 September 1943.

99th was Oberleutnant (Ing.) d.R. Dipl. Ing. Willi Lechtenböger, Engineering Officer on U-847. The award was made 4 Sept. 1943.
