  • the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to U-Boat Commanders for sinking at least 100,000 tons of merchant shipping or for sinking one capital navy ship such as an aircraft carrier or battleship?
  • over the night of 19/20 October 1940, six U-Boats sank 38 ships of about 325,000 tons from the British convoy HX 79 in the North Atlantic?
  • the Oak Leaf to the Knights Cross was awarded to U-Boat Skippers for sinking at least 200,000 tons?
  • the United States Navy sank 1,113 ships with a total tonnage of approximately 5,320,094 in World War II?
