Schnorkel

An air pipe with a valve assembly at the top which, when extended above the surface of the sea, would allow fresh air to enter for the diesel engines and breathing, and allowed the exhaust to escape the boat.

Schussmeldung

The ‘shooting report’ that was required for each torpedo fired. Each had to be accounted for.

SD

the feared Sicherheitsdienst, or military secret police.
