During World War II, a total of 145 Knights Cross medals were awarded to men of the U-Bootwaffe. These include: 66th was Kapitänleutnant HELMUT WITTE (4238-LIFE-1995), Skipper of U-159. The award was made 22 October 1942. (at left) 67th was Kapitänleutnant Siegfried Strelow, Skipper of U-435. The award was made 27 October 1942 68th was Korvettenkapitän Fritz Poske, Skipper of U-504. The award was made 6 November 1942. 69th was Kapitänleutnant Günther Müller-Stöckheim, Skipper of U-67. The award was made 27 November 1942. 70th was Kapitänleutnant CARL EMMERMANN (315-+-1987), C.O. U-172. The award was made 27 November 1942.
