It was in January 1945 when the Germans learned how the soon-to-be-victorious Allies would divide and occupy their country. A copy of the secret plan was captured from the British.

It was 6 May 1942 that Corregidor fell to the Japanese.

The last naval surface engagement of World War II was between five British destroyers and the I.J.N. cruiser HAGURO on 17 May 1945 in the Malacca Strait. The cruiser was lost.

The first American aircraft carrier lost in World War II was also the first ever American aircraft carrier – she was USS LANGLEY (CV-1), sunk 27 February 1942. At the time she was attacked, this ‘old lady’ of the US Navy Air Arm was functioning as a seaplane tender. Badly damaged and beyond repair after Japanese bomb attacks, she was sunk by American forces.

Shame on you if you missed this one! The carrier HMS ARK ROYAL that played such a pivotal role in the destruction of BISMARCK, was sunk 15 November 1941 by U-81 under FRITZ GUGGENBERGER (269-+-1987) and with GERRY RICHTER (214-LIFE-1986) at the radio.
