Please Read This

Please check and double check the mailing label on the envelope that this issue of our KTB Magazine came in. In our computer center, there is one old computer attached to an old sprocket-fed printer that we use to maintain the mailing label file. Each month then, we just push the proper buttons and all the mailing labels come out in ZIP code order and we mail your KTB to you.

Naturally, we were making a tape back-up each and every week. Well, about two years ago we decided (foolishly) that since there had never been a failure, then we were wasting time backing up.

Okay - you know what is coming next - we had a major and total hard drive crash on that computer. We got a new hard drive put in right away but unfortunately, the mailing label program had not been backed up for two years and so, was useless.

Naturally we did have our master Membership program on another computer, our newest and most modern computer, so nobody was lost. Unfortunately, these two computers are so far apart in age and technology that they cannot “talk” to one another, so after downloading the entire Membership roster onto paper, I had the fun and privilege of re-entering some 6,000 names and addresses onto the old computer. That took me about two weeks, working from 0400 until about 0700 each day. You can bet we DO back up all our computers weekly - to mag tape, to floppy discs and to CD.

HOWEVER - WE NEED YOU TO CHECK your mailing label on this issue of your KTB. If there are any errors of any kind at all, please let us know immediately so we can correct them.

2002 Membership Contest
