Professor's Research

Question of the Month

by Tom Mackin (146-A-1985)

Did you know that Kapitänleutnant Rasch, Skipper of U-106, performed major dental work on one of his crew while the boat was off the Canadian coast? Did you know that the poor fellow with the bad teeth was Karl Moggerein from Berlin?

Now we do - thanks to Professor TOM MACKIN (146-A-1985).

Professor TOM MACKIN (146-A-1985) has posed some really tough questions for us to scratch our heads over. He puts forth one of these tough questions each month, and we will have the answers a month later. We welcome your reply.

Name the Skipper who was sent to the New Brunswick area off the Gulf of St. Lawrence to pick up U-boot officers who were to break out of Canadian P.o.W. camps in May 1943.

Extra credit question - what was the code name for this operation?

Extra extra credit question - what was unusual about his passage off Cabot Strait?

The FIRST correct answer here will have his/her name published in the KTB as the monthly contest winner. Will that be YOU? oh yes, with these extra credit questions, can you tell that TOM was a school teacher? Thought so.
