Was Richard Sorge Executed?

German Agent for USSR in Tokyo

by Harry Cooper

If you remember your World War II history, Richard Sorge was the German working in Tokyo who was actually working for the Soviets. He is the one that tipped off Stalin that the Japanese would not attack from the east and thereby, allowing Stalin to bring the troops of Marshall Zhukov back to reinforce the front against the Germans and thereby tip the balance of power in the Soviet's favor.

Our S.E.I.G. Agent Be 574 wrote this to us some time ago.

"Agent Dr. Sorge - are you sure that the spy Dr. Sorge was executed the beginning of 1945??? In U-864 was a Kapitanleutnant Plass for the tribunal of Dr. Sorge in Japan, but U-864 was sunk on 9 February 1945. Ambassador friend of Dr. Sorge in Japan, Dr. HansOtto Meissner, wrote in his book Dr. Sorge - not sure that Dr. Sorge was executed!!

Please put in your KTB - the story with Dr. Sorge, but not say my name because we are in search of the story of U-864 in xxxxx. To U-864, Korvettenkapitan Wolfram, has 4 guests aboard for Tokyo:

Lt. Von Clingensperg, born 25 June 1904. He was from Messerschmitt for Me 262 and Me 163
Lt. Rolf Schomerus, born 31 December 1909. He was also from Messerschmitt for Me 262 and Me 163.
Kapitanleutnant Sven Plass, born 12 August 1908 and he was for the tribunal of Dr. Sorge.
In addition, there were Me 262 and Me 163 aircraft aboard, in crates, bound for Tokyo.

This is very important - Mtr. Gefir. Franz Turk, born 7 August 1908. In all the German war files, there is no personnel data on Turk!! We believe that Franz Turk was the man with the water bottles on U-864 bound for Japan -- heavy water, known as Deuterium. This was in steel bottles and came from the German Deuterium bases in Norway. And Franz Turk was a Doctor from a German university. DrFranz Turk is not in files in Berlin!!!!

The last guest on board of U-864 was Kapitanleutnant Jobst Hahndorff, born 30 Mar. 1918. He was Skipper-trainee on U-864. The boat sank with all 73 men!!! Not say my name in KTB!"

EDITOR NOTE: U-864 was sunk with all hands lost on 9 February 1945 by the Royal Navy submarine HMS VENTURER to the west of Bergen, Norway. The Allies had broken the codes and knew what boats were carrying what high-priority cargo, and they placed the RN submarines in ambush for them. Of all the U-boats with these cargoes, only U-234 escaped destruction.
