RADM Chester Nimitz is dead. January 2002, RADM Chester Nimitz, son of the great American Admiral of World War II, has died in a suicide with his wife Joan. The Admiral (86 years of age) and his wife (89 years of age) were found dead of an apparent overdose of pills in their apartment in Needham, Mass. Their daughter, Betsy von Dorn, said: 'They wanted to die together, and they were both on a precipitous downhill slope in their health. This is something they had talked about in sort. of a philosophical vein for years, so it was not a huge surprise to us." Nimitz was a decorated WW II American submarine officer.
