The only Skipper of U-184 was Kapitänleutnant Günther Dangschat. He was the commissioning Skipper and he was lost when the boat went down. U-184 was his first command as a U-boat Skipper.

U-184 was first attached for training to the 4th U-Bootflottille based at Stettin for her working up cruises, then posted as a frontboot with the famed 2nd U-Bootflottille based at Lorient. She was on her first Feindfahrt (war patrol) and was working against a convoy in the North Atlantic when she was attacked and sunk with all hands lost.

During her short time in the war, U-184 attacked no ships.
