U-Plätze

Bulletin Board

by S.E.I.G. Agent Be573

We have been reading about the “U-Plätze” around the world and in off southern tip of South American in particular. Most of this information comes from S.E.I.G. Agent Be573 and it tears off the covers from various formerly unknown secrets of World War II. Here is more from this elusive SHARKHUNTERS spook:

“It is interesting to read all KTB Magazines, so with much unique historical information - stories long forgotten by many. Even up to the end of the century, we have the old oath for secrecy - you know the old oath. It has been made known to me that any break in my obligation to remain completely silent regarding this operation - in sea area - well, I understand. I must remain silent for the entire duration of my life.”

EDITOR NOTE - some years ago, S.E.I.G. Agent Be573 had written that at the entrance to each of these hidden harbors was a two-meter-high pyramid made of stones. I told him that, when I was a yacht bum for 8 years living aboard my boat in the Bahamas, there was such a stone pyramid at Frozen and Alder Cays in the Berry Island chain of the Bahamas. In the “Cruising Guide” this is said to be a place for cruising yachtsmen to leave notes in mayonnaise jars. He has never been to the Bahamas, but here is what he wrote back regarding that specific ‘steinpyramid’ on Alder Cay.

“The story about the “U-Plätze” is very fine and I hope the stone pyramid on the little island Alder Cay, south of Frozen Cay on the hill east side before the deep of the bill shaped bay is intact today and in good condition for many years. You will find very good fresh water to drink but back in the west side near the little beach, there is a small spring near eight stones, a good hiding place.”

EDITOR NOTE - He is right in every detail!

“You’ll find the same kind of steinpyramid on position 49º 17.48S and 69º 41.35E at Gazelle Bay and in position right from rw. 10º was a great food depot in 1940 and 1941 and fine water 900 meters distance. The cruisers ATLANTIS and KOMET were here and so were the ship ALSTERTOR and ADJUTANT. So near any of these steinpyramid back 500 to 900 meters distance, you will find always fine water to drink, a spring and more so you will find water on Alder Cay but not on the bigger Frozen Cay, and you will find springs on Trinidade Island and fresh good water on a little out of the way island, Islas de san Andrees.”

EDITOR NOTE - Trinidade is NOT the Trinidad near Tobago; this is a little island in the middle of the South Atlantic where we have strong reason to believe, people escaping from Germany from middle 1944 through middle 1947, stopped for fresh water and food before going onward to the spots on South America where we know they came ashore.

“On U-platz #51 in 1940 was the raider ORION for more than one week. Other places were German steamers and ghost cruisers like ORION and sea tankers and prize ships. Cape Horn in 1941 - 1943 has the nickname ‘Spottvogel’ and rounded by German steamer KAUTSCHUK from Lüeta and Japan. Special German ship WINNETOU near ’Spottvogel’ later meeting with German raider in the Pacific. Other ‘U-Plätze’ include:

    No. 69 - Halmahira Sea
No. 70 - Banda Sea (special position in the Sea)
No. 71 - the Bay of Tamoelol
    No. 72 - the Booeilanden
No. 73 - places in the Molukken Islands
No. 74 - Martin Vatz in the South Atlantic where you will find fresh water at Crater Bay on the southern island.”
