Specifications for the EB 200A submarines. Length: 300’ 7”
Six American submarines were built to these specifications:
USS PICKEREL (SS 177) USS PERMIT (SS 178) USS PLUNGER (SS179) USS POLLACK (SS 180) USS POMPANO (SS181) These boats were designed and built pre-war, so American submarine design had not been standardized as yet for more and faster production, such as was the case with the GATO and BALAO Class boats later on. * Diesel engine specifications:
The diesel engines in PLUNGER and POLLACK were built by Fairbanks, Morse & Co., Beloit, Wisconsin. The diesel engines in POMPANO were built by Hoover, Owens Rentschler Company in Hamilton, Ohio. ** Electric motor specifications:
The electric motors in PLUNGER and POLLACK were made by Elliot Motor Company, Jeanette, Pennsylvania. The electric motors in POMPANO were made by Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, WI.
