Specifications for the EB 200A submarines.

Length: 300’ 7”
Beam: 21’ 5”
Draft: 13’ 10”
Displacement: 1,330/1,997 tons
Power: twin screw diesel/electric
Engines * (diesel): 4,300 hp
Engines ** (electric): 240 cells
Speed (diesel): 19.25 knots
Speed (electric): 8.75 knots
Bunkers: 92,801 gallons
Range: unknown
Tubes (21 inch): six tubes
Torpedoes carried: (SS 176 - SS 178) 18 torpedoes
Torpedoes carried: (SS 179 - SS 181) 16 torpedoes
Deck guns: single three inch/.50 cal.
AA guns: two .50 caliber machine guns and two .30 caliber machine guns
Depth of dive: 250 feet
Officers: 5 officers
Enlisted men: 45 men

Six American submarines were built to these specifications:

    USS PERCH (SS176)
    USS PICKEREL (SS 177)
    USS PERMIT (SS 178)
    USS PLUNGER (SS179)
    USS POLLACK (SS 180)
    USS POMPANO (SS181)

These boats were designed and built pre-war, so American submarine design had not been standardized as yet for more and faster production, such as was the case with the GATO and BALAO Class boats later on.

* Diesel engine specifications:

    The diesel engines in PERCH, PICKEREL and PERMIT were built by Winton Engine Corporation in Cleveland Ohio.

    The diesel engines in PLUNGER and POLLACK were built by Fairbanks, Morse & Co., Beloit, Wisconsin.

    The diesel engines in POMPANO were built by Hoover, Owens Rentschler Company in Hamilton, Ohio.

** Electric motor specifications:

    The electric motors in PERCH, PICKEREL and PERMIT were made by General Electric Company, Schenectady, NY.

    The electric motors in PLUNGER and POLLACK were made by Elliot Motor Company, Jeanette, Pennsylvania.

    The electric motors in POMPANO were made by Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, WI.
