Thanks to JAMES SANTOS (4896-A/LIFE-1996) for sending us this news release out of EFE via COMTEX. This is interesting news, but why did they take so long to report it? Members will recall that we reported this as the cause of the loss of KURSK about one month after this tragedy. How did we know it? PAUL LAWTON (4628-1996) did a lot of research into the tragedy and how the SKVAL rocket-powered torpedo could have played a part. It was obvious even then that the rocket motor of one of these 200mph (underwater) torpedoes ignited, and created a conflagration which caused the explosions of other warhead and the sudden loss of the boat. It's good that the 'mainstream' press can catch up with reports we have made nearly a year ago.
