Sharkhunters Patrols

Germany: North and South 2001

by Harry Cooper

As our Members know, we have two great `Patrols' arranged for October this year - first to Southern Germany and Austria, then to North Germany. Each tour has its highlights and both will be just fantastic. It was not an error that there are a couple days free time between the end of the Southern Patrol and the beginning of the Northern Patrol. This was indeed, done for a reason.

It is necessary that we get from Frankfurt where our Southern Patrol ends to Hamburg, where our Northern Patrol begins but I did not think that I wanted to drive a few hundred kilometers per hour down the autobahn, although that really is a lot of fun.

Instead, we will have a rental car and drive leisurely, stopping at various historic sites along the way -- including Wewelsburg Castle which had been the site where Heinrich Himmler planned to build up the old order of the Teutonic Knights during World War II. We no longer visit this place with a group because, with a group, it is required that a guide come along and these guides are radically left wing who take more time telling how terrible the German people were than telling about the history of the castle. But without a group, we can tour the castle without a guide, and spend a much time as we wish. So - anyone on both tours is more than welcome to ride along with us -- at no charge of course, except pay for your own food and room those days -- if you wish. Just another benefit to our Members.
