Naval Terms

Helping Members to better understand some of the naval terms (both German and English) used in World War II and in our KTB.

L. I. Leitender Ingenieur - it means Leading Engineer or the Chief Engineering Officer

Lt zS Leutnant zur See. The `zur See' distinguishes a naval Leutnant from one in another branch. It also designates a regular officer rather than a reserve officer, who would have d.R behind the rank signifying 'der Reserve'

Log A book containing the official record of a ship's activities together with weather observations etc. The German version of a log was the KriegsTageBuch or as we know it, the KTB
